A Very NICE Trip to France!! (Perdomo)

That moment was when we realized that we quite literally Ubered into another country without any ID or passports!
Over Easter break, seven of us from the Civ in London program decided to visit the south of France. Although we stayed in Nice, we had plans to travel to other nearby cities. We decided on visiting Èze on our first day there, which was only a 20 minute car ride away and absolutely beautiful. We climbed up to a beautiful garden with an amazing view and afterwards ate the most delicious crepes. It was only 3:00 pm when we got through our plans for Èze and decided at the last minute to take a trip to Monte Carlo because the Uber seemed to only be another 20 minute ride. We split into two Ubers and agreed to meet up in Monte Carlo. When we were almost at our destination our Uber driver asked if we spoke French to which we replied we did not. He continued to say “Uber impossible” and began giving us directions on how to return back to Nice. When we got out of the Uber we thanked him and began panicking because we were confused as to why we wouldn’t be able to take an Uber out of the city. For some reason, our phones did not have any service and although we were a bit nervous, we made the choice to enjoy ourselves in Monte Carlo before worrying about how to leave it. We visited souvenir stores and saw the famous casino which held multiple luxury vehicles in the parking spaces out front. Everything about Monte Carlo screamed expensive and it was a very different experience from any other place I have visited while in Europe. The views of the grand yachts and colorful buildings really made Monte Carlo stand out in a special way to me. We finally got phone service and realized that Monaco, which we had initially thought was a part of France, was actually its own country. That moment was when we realized that we quite literally Ubered into another country without any ID or passports! A few of us panicked while others thought the situation was actually a bit funny. We remembered the directions that the kind driver gave us and we found the train station that we were able to use to return to Nice. Overall, the hiccups of the day are what made it one of the most memorable to me. Having such amazing friends by my side made me feel so much lighter about our situation and in the end we were all able to laugh about what we had experienced together. The rest of our break was just as amazing, spending the next day at the beach, Sunday climbing to see even more amazing views, and eating the most delicious food imaginable all weekend long. The South of France proved to be one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and I would love to return one day.
